"Do what you want no matter where you are from"

Are you from the projects? Well then you can't accomplish anything...FALSE!!!

Your parents were not successful, so you wont be either!..... FALSE!!!

You grew up in a single parent home, then you are not equipped for the real world.......FALSE!!!

You want to start a business that's a different career than what your parents would want? Thats okay!

After speaking with an amazing women from South east DC I was encouraged to reach out to others and share what she have began in 2015. This women goes by the name ERICA (with a C). Born and raised in South East DC and now resides in MD. She first decided to push through and start a mentoring program for teens in DC. She was inspired after hearing about the horrific case of Arnesha Bowers, who was found dead at a house that was burned down.  People have reported that a man was seen outside of the home during the time the house was seen burning and was affiliated with this teen's family. More on this story is in the highlighted link.  Sadly, for many years there has been many situations where men have lured little girls by giving them candy and money and taking advantage of them because they were vulnerable Erica said. In addition, she grew up in the late 80's and witnessed her darker skinned friends being treated different then herself, since she was light skinned. When she learned about Arnesha Bower case, who is an African American girl, she knew it was time to take a stand and start speaking up.

Erica, was also inspired because of her upbringing. She was surrounded by the love she received from her parents and grandparents. But she had always felt 'off' because  the people around her seemed to be having different challenges than herself. She witnessed her darker skinned friends being treated different; since she was light skinned. Comments such as "oh you dont have to worry about that" bothered her.

All in all, on top of all of that, she still chose the high road. She is also working on a book, hosting a series of podcasts on her instagram page called SHEINC, which stands for "She helps everyone continuously",  and maintains a mentoring bizz called BLACK GIRLS FIGHT BACK established in 2017. There, she promotes positivity by hosting self-defense classes, family engagement programs, and other positive engagements to promote women empowerment. She is a proven fact that no matter where you are from or what you have went through, you can achieve anything your heart desires.

Where you are a person with zero dollars or one million, you are somebody and let no one tell you other wise. Keep pursuing your dreams. Be inspired, keep pushing because GIRL/BOY you Got it!

  1. Good read! I tend to think differently about people from the projects, people can be very judgmental. But thankfully there are many out there who do not judge and give everyone a fair shot

  2. This is a very interesting read and alot to digest. I dont know what to think of it, I dont know what to expect out of it. Ive met people from all over the world. Many were not from the projects, theres only a few that entails this group. It is hard to judge someone from where they are born or where they grew up
